Understanding Ladakh
Movie – Talk and Discussion
( Monday, Tuesday, Friday : 2–4 pm. )
We initiated this program mainly to educate the people about the ancient culture, traditions and customs, its benefits and the flipside. Our purpose is not just to provide statistical information but also to preserve and protect the old good simple practices that are environmentally and ecological friendly.
Ladakhis over the centuries have adopted simple but effective farming, social customs and manners. One of the most beautiful things about ladakhi culture is that you never pass by someone without a smile and Julley especially the young toward their elders.
Due to modernisation and western style living, this wonderful practice is becoming lost among the younger generation. We would like to encourage our youth to revive this good habit which adds more colour to this simple yet profound way of life.
Some of our activities are holding discussions and meeting with local youth, elders, screening documentary films on Ladakh in every village and organising cultural exchange programs. We cannot challenge the western influence but we can at least keep alive the smile that comes from the heart rather than just the lip. We are confident that this program will help us in reaching out not only to the tourists but also to the locals. We intend to educate and promote our rich cultural heritage.
